Grant and Sloan Johnson: Bathtime, new skills and a new Playroom

We have been very busy over the past couple of weeks and really enjoyed spending time with Grant and Sloan over the holidays.

Grant's Dune Buggy from Santa turned out to be a dud. It wouldn't turn to the right so I guess the elves messed up on that one. The problem is that Toys R Us won't have anymore in stock for 3 weeks! We will have to wait to enjoy that gift.

Our holiday project was turning one of our guest bedrooms into a Playroom. However, we ended up playing musical rooms. Sloan's room was over the garage and always much cooler than the rest and she is colder natured like her mama. We were always having to run the heat higher for her and then the rest of us were hot. Sooooo.... we decided to move Grant into the guest bedroom, which is much bigger. Then, we moved Sloan into Grant's room (which is closer to our room) and made Sloan's old room the Playroom! This meant that we had to paint 2 rooms though along with moving a ton of furniture around. It all got done though and the result is great! Grant LOVES having a playroom! He keeps moving different toys upstairs saying they need to be in "my playroom". He also likes that it is right next to his bedroom. Our den now looks a little less like a toy store too.

Sloan's new skills include putting things back (like putting blocks back in bucket, etc.) and trying to use a fork and spoon. She loves to feed herself and is already really good at using utensils. She tries to get the food (like carrots) on the fork but we usually have to help with that part. But then she gets it right in her mouth and tries to stab more food. Her fine motor skills are awesome! Guess that balances the fact that she is still not walking! She talks all of the time and it sounds like a foreign language. We laugh when she gets going because it sounds like one of those Vietnamese women in the nail salons. The words that ARE very clear to us include juice, go go, bye bye, fish, that, No, hair bow and shhhh (she tells Mason to shhhhh when he whines or barks). She will point to her ears if you ask where they are and we are working on other body parts. She gets really, really frustrated when she wants something and we can't figure out what it is fast enough. And she also will throw a fit if she doesn't get her way. She will literally throw herself on the floor and scream. Drama already......so early! We are in trouble! Her 15 month doctor's appointment is coming up in a couple of weeks and I will have some new stats.

Sloan's hair is getting pretty long in the back now. I actually got the comb caught in a tangle the other night and she cried so hard. I think I may need to start using conditioner already. This is uncharted territory for us so we shall see. Guessing that I will have to blow dry it soon too....although it is still pretty thin now and drys pretty fast.

Grant has demanded to take a bath in the same tub since Sloan got new bath toys. He got new bath toys too actually but her stuff looked more fun I guess. He is definitely going through a jealousy phase right now. Sloan takes up a lot of time since she is into everything and it is also challenging to discipline him for something that she gets away with. I hear a lot of "but Sloan does that". Kind of sad sometimes but welcome to having a sibling, right! It will be more fun when they can actually run around and play together.

We are back to work soon and Grant will be back in school next week. Everyone is healthy again too so let's hope it stays that way.
